A Massive Congratulations to Alice Allen: Our Newly Qualified Registered Manager!

At North Shropshire Homecare, we believe that the quality of our care is a direct reflection of the people leading our team. Today, we have a very special milestone to celebrate.

Please join us in sending a massive congratulations to Alice Allen, who has officially become a CQC Registered Manager!

If you have interacted with NSHC in recent years, you already know Alice. As our former Deputy Manager, she has been a guiding force in our office and out in the community. But stepping into the role of a Registered Manager is a tremendous professional achievement. Here is a look at why this is such a big deal for Alice, and why it is fantastic news for our clients across North Shropshire.

What Exactly is a Registered Manager?

In the care sector, "Registered Manager" isn't just an internal job title you get promoted into, it is a profound legal and professional responsibility.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC)—the independent regulator of health and social care in England—requires every care provider to have a Registered Manager. This person is legally responsible for the day-to-day management of the service. They are the ones who stand before the CQC and say, "I guarantee that the care we provide is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led."

To earn this title, Alice didn't just have to pass an internal review. She had to:

  • Complete a rigorous Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.

  • Undergo a long in-depth "Fit Person" interview directly with CQC inspectors to prove her knowledge of care legislation, safeguarding, and complex operational management.

  • Accept legal accountability for the health, safety, and dignity of every single client we support.

It is one of the most highly scrutinised roles in the healthcare sector, and Alice has passed with flying colours.

Why Alice is the Perfect Fit

Alice has dedicated over 13 years to domiciliary care, mastering both the hands-on and administrative sides of the sector.

She is the driving force behind our Moving and Handling training (yes, she is the one who makes sure every new carer gets safely hoisted so they understand exactly how vulnerable our clients feel!). She has also been instrumental in modernising our care systems, pioneering our use of digital social care records so our team can spend less time on paperwork and more time with clients.

But beyond the technical skills, Alice lives by a simple, unshakable ethos: "Good care is about treating people with the same kindness, dignity, and respect that we would want for our own loved ones."

The NSHC Advantage: The Power of Two

Alice’s registration brings an incredible operational advantage to our team. With Alice stepping up, NSHC now operates with two CQC Registered Managers until October 2026. In the domiciliary care sector, having two Registered Managers under one roof is rare, but the benefits for our clients and our carers are immense:

  • Unmatched Resilience: Care is a 24/7/365 sector, and burnout among Registered Managers is notoriously high nationwide. Having two managers means they can share the immense legal and operational workload. If one manager is dealing with an out-of-hours emergency or taking well-deserved annual leave, there is another fully qualified, legally empowered leader ready to step in without missing a beat.

  • More Time for What Matters: The administrative burden of running a care agency is vast. By sharing these duties, our managers have more time to actually leave the office in Whitchurch, visit clients in their homes, and support our carers on the ground.

  • Sharper Focus on Complex Care: NSHC specialises in complex needs, including supporting clients on NIV (Non-Invasive Ventilation) machines and those with advanced physical disabilities. Having two expert minds collaborating on care plans ensures that we can handle highly specialised, acute requirements safely and confidently.

Looking Forward

Alice’s dedication to this community—from the busy streets of Whitchurch and Wem to the quiet lanes of Ash, Prees, and Whixall—is unmatched. We are incredibly proud of her hard work, her expertise, and her unwavering compassion. We hope her transition period during the next few months before our Registered Manager Maggie Allen’s retirement goes smoothly. Who are we kidding? We know it will!

If you see Alice out and about, or if you are popping into The Coach House, be sure to pass on your congratulations.
