Higher Heath — formally Prees Higher Heath — is the largest settlement in the Prees civil parish, with a population of over 1,100. Located on the A41 south of Whitchurch, it sits between the two main road corridors of the area and has better access than many of the surrounding rural villages, with Prees railway station and Whitchurch station both within reasonable distance.

We visit clients in Higher Heath regularly. It is one of the communities where we have the deepest local knowledge — several long-term clients, strong familiarity with the local roads and services, and carers who live in or near the village.

About Higher Heath

Higher Heath developed largely along the A41 corridor and has a practical, functional character that reflects its position on a main road between two market towns. The community has its own identity distinct from Prees Village to the south — more connected to Whitchurch for its day-to-day needs, and well-positioned for the North Salop Wheelers Friday service that passes through the area en route to Whitchurch.

Staff promoted and supported people’s independence. For example, making choices as part of everyday life
and when offering personal care. One person told us, “Everyone is always respectful and always ask my
permission before they do anything, even going to the toilet! I like my carers.
